A conscious exploration of material, form and function, Boutique Fairs
Boutiques was yet another unexpected venture when Studio Karyn Lim first made an appearance at The Gifting Edition in 2022. Prior to receiving the Young Designers Showcase Grant (YDSG) that November, Karyn had only been showing at design exhibitions or trade shows. Boutiques presented a different opportunity — one that allowed her to connect directly with shoppers in a retail environment, and offer them a more intimate understanding of her work before committing to a purchase. (read more) Passage, Our Barehands The collection has gentle curves in place of sharp edges – a reminder to be kind to each other, especially as we weather through this metaphorical change of seasons. The fit is a little loose and not baggy, so that we can move with the ease that we’ve gotten used to. (read more) Mayfair, Our Barehands I wanted to create a capsule collection of functional pieces that would be comfortable to lounge in, yet smart enough to take work-related video calls with. I envisioned these pieces to take their wearer from their home office, to a quick grocery run, and on weekends, to brunch with friends after yoga in the morning. (read more) Creative Capital, CNA Lifestyle What is your own creative process like? Once you get a brief, what do you do? Ask questions. It's important to me to try to understand the client’s wants, needs and desires. I try to first define parameters, feel out if any can be pushed or not, and then put together a mood board or draft to capture the intention, and to check that the client and I are on the same page. (read more) 'So Plastic' Recycled Plastic Furniture, Home & Decor It was inspired by plastic – the ubiquitous and highly versatile material that was once celebrated as “the material of a thousand uses” when it was first invented in the early 1900s, associated with styles that were cheap, flimsy or fake in the 60s, and today, viewed as a major pollutant and threat to our environment.
